Lift access, route, lake order, Matterhorn reflections, difficulty and timing for Zermatt's most-loved summer hike.

The short version
  • Stellisee gives the cleanest Matterhorn reflection on a still morning — start early and go anticlockwise.
  • The loop links five lakes: Stellisee, Grindjisee, Grünsee, Moosjisee and Leisee.
  • Ride the funicular to Sunnegga and the lift on to Blauherd to start high and walk mostly downhill.
  • It is a popular, well-marked trail, but still high alpine ground — check weather and lift times.

The route, lake by lake

From Blauherd the trail drops to Stellisee first — the reflection lake — then traces a gentle line through Grindjisee and Grünsee to Moosjisee and finishes at Leisee above Sunnegga, where families swim in summer. Reckon on a half-day at an easy pace, longer with photo stops.
